Former India captain and star CSK player MS Dhoni has once again emerged as the highest individual taxpayer in the combined Bihar-Jharkhand region for the financial year 2025-26, according to officials from the Income Tax Department.
The announcement was made on May 7 by Dr D Sudhakara Rao during a departmental briefing on tax collections from the two states.
Officials said the Income Tax Department collected nearly ₹20,000 crore from Bihar and Jharkhand during the financial year. Of the total amount, Jharkhand contributed around ₹12,000 crore, while Bihar accounted for approximately ₹8,000 crore.
Dhoni has consistently ranked among the top taxpayers in the region for more than a decade. His streak reportedly dates back to the 2007-08 financial year and continued through several years following his retirement from international cricket in 2020.
While officials did not disclose the exact amount of tax paid by the 44-year-old former cricketer this year, the recognition highlights Dhoni’s continued commercial success and financial standing beyond his playing career.
