The registration process for overseas players for the sixth edition of the Lanka Premier League 2026 officially began on Friday (8), with Sri Lanka Cricket opening applications through its official website.
Foreign players interested in entering the player draft can register until May 18, according to the tournament organisers.
Alongside the registration process, organisers have also released a detailed set of guidelines outlining the qualification criteria required for players applying under different categories.
Among the newly introduced regulations, the social media follower requirement has attracted significant attention.
Under the criteria for the top-tier “Icon” category, players must have played at least 75 T20 internationals and more than 100 franchise T20 matches. They are also required to have participated in a minimum of 30 matches during the past 18 months.
In addition to their on-field experience, Icon category applicants must also have a social media following of more than 250,000 followers across digital platforms.
The same follower requirement applies to players registering under the “Star” category, who must also possess more than 250,000 social media followers.
Meanwhile, players applying under the “Gold” category are required to have at least 150,000 followers on social media platforms.
The move highlights the league’s increasing focus on the commercial appeal and global visibility of players, alongside their cricketing achievements, as the tournament continues to expand its international profile.
