LPL Removes Social Media Follower Requirement From Player Eligibility Criteria

Date:

Organisers of the Lanka Premier League 2026 have revised the player eligibility guidelines issued for overseas registrations, removing the previously announced social media follower requirement from all player categories.

The updated guidelines were released shortly after the initial registration criteria drew attention for including minimum social media follower counts as part of the qualification process.

Under the earlier regulations, players registering in the “Icon” and “Star” categories were required to have more than 250,000 followers across social media platforms, while “Gold” category applicants needed a minimum of 150,000 followers.

However, tournament organisers have now issued a new set of guidelines excluding those conditions.

Players applying under the “Icon” category must have played at least 75 T20 internationals, more than 100 franchise T20 matches, and a minimum of 30 matches during the past 18 months.

Players registering under the “Star” category are required to have featured in at least 50 T20 internationals, more than 100 franchise T20 matches, and 30 matches within the last 18 months.

Meanwhile, “Gold” category applicants must have played a minimum of 30 T20 internationals, over 75 franchise T20 matches, and at least 20 matches during the past 18 months.

The registration process for overseas players for the sixth edition of the tournament was officially opened by Sri Lanka Cricket on Friday (8), with registrations scheduled to remain open until May 18.
