Sri Lanka Cricket Rejects Reports of Financial Crisis Following Interim Committee Appointment

Date:

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has dismissed recent media reports claiming that the organisation is facing a financial crisis following the appointment of the Cricket Transformation Committee.

In a statement, Sri Lanka Cricket said the reports are “false and misleading” and clarified that the newly appointed committee has full legal authority to manage the affairs of the board, including its financial operations.

SLC stated that the Cricket Transformation Committee was appointed by Sports Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage under the powers granted through the Sports Law No. 25 of 1973.

According to the statement, the appointment of the committee has already been officially published in the Government Gazette, granting it the authority to oversee the administration, management and financial affairs of Sri Lanka Cricket until a new executive committee is elected.

The cricket board further noted that its daily operations continue without disruption and that all financial commitments are being met as scheduled.

SLC said payments to suppliers, service providers, employees, players and other stakeholders are continuing normally despite speculation surrounding the organisation’s financial position.

The clarification comes amid ongoing discussions surrounding the recent changes to the administration of Sri Lanka Cricket.
